Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Old dogs can’t learn new tricks?” That is simply not true!
It does take more time and patience if your dog has never “learned how to learn” from an early age, but with the right training techniques, individually personalized for you and your pooch, we are here to show you how!
Root River Retrievers is dedicated to helping each individual dog owners become the trainer they need to be to live harmoniously with their dog(s). Most rescues are full of pets whose parents who were unaware of the importance of learning these tools for themselves. We believe that it is more about training the owner than training the dog. Although we do offer Board&Train options, we strongly encourage owners to participate in the training process.
Whether you are new to dog ownership or you have owned dogs your whole life, but you are struggling with training, we are here to help! In our “All Age” obedience class, we cover not only obedience commands, but common behavior issues, such as pulling on the leash while walking, counter surfing, jumping…etc. We will guide you through teaching your dog the basics, such as Sit-means-Sit all the way through “No-means-No” and the importance of these commands.
One very important and often over-looked detail a lot of dog owners ignore, is the breed of their new dog and the impact that alone has on how well you and your dog live together. That is breed specific attributes alone, then you take into account the temperaments of the parents and how strongly they influenced your pooch’s behavior.
We (Root River Retrievers) take all of this information into account during training to best help you overcome common, breed specific issues that will arise when left unaddressed.
